Welcome to The Fire Investigators of Florida, Inc. Website

Message From the President

picture

Prior to an introduction, I would like to thank William “Bumper” Moylan for being our Past President for the past 2 terms. He has served the membership well and left me in a good position in taking over as your new President. My name is Kerry Barnett. I have been in the public sector for nearly 25 years, with half being in investigations and inspections, I have owned my own consulting company for the past 5 years, and have held several positions on the Board for the past 10 years. It is an honor to serve all of you as the President of the Fire Investigators of Florida.
I would like to take some time to talk about recent changes within your organization. First, as you may have notice, our name has changed. In our March 2013 meeting the general membership approved several bylaw changes including the chapter name change. We are not arson investigators. We are fire investigators that determine cause and origin, with arson being a cause. We our one of several chapters that has moved forward with a name change and our lobbying for a change on the International level.
Second, we have down sized our Board by eliminating a Vice President and 3 Directors. This was done to be more economically sound. It has eliminated the extra expenses associated with providing quality seminars with exceptional speakers. With that said, it did cut down on the number of seminars but not the amount of hours of training provided. I assure you, our Board continues to work extremely hard in providing an advanced level of training in all areas of fire investigation.
I am also excited to advise that the Chapter has reunited with the IAAI and become part of the enhanced membership program. First and foremost, this will once again allow members to join the Chapter and the IAAI under one invoice, thus eliminating 2 payments at different times of the year. Additionally, it also will allow for on-line registration and testing for seminars.
Speaking of benefits, as a member you still receive a reduced training price versus non-members, a $5,000 Accidental Death Benefit Fund, and the ability to vote on Chapter business, and even run for office. If you feel like you don’t want to be that involved but would still like to assist, consider being on a committee. The Chapter is always seeking assistance within the organization. If you are interested in being part of a committee, such as; training & education, annual seminar, membership, awards, etc… go to our contact page and give one of us a call.
Last, I and the Board would like to hear from you, whether positive or negative. It is important to us that we are meeting your needs as a member of the Fire Investigators of Florida. Remember your Board volunteers their time and dedication to this organization, therefore if negative; please respond in a professional way. It is a way to measure ourselves in ensuring we are doing our job the way it needs to be done.
In closing, seek education, grasp a hold of the science, gain experience and then apply it. Don’t be afraid to go back and refresh. As Winston Churchill once stated, “Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.”
See you soon at a Chapter conference!

Fraternally,
Kerry Barnett
